MBTI S1-1 Understanding MBTI Beyond Stereotypes: Introduction

Updated: Jun 26, 2025

No stereotypes about MBTI types.

What's wrong with MBTI nowadays? Stereotypes!

Before I talk about MBTI, which is a famous personality assessment tool, I want to share something I see a lot:

  1. Do you use websites like 16Personalities, Truity or MBTIonline, etc. to find out your MBTI type?

  2. Do you just use MBTI to chat with friends or to feel good about the stereotypes because someone understands you? It's easy to only see what you want to believe. Some may even use their MBTI as an excuse for their faults.

  3. Have you ever learned about the deeper parts of MBTI, like the 8 cognitive functions?

  4. How do you understand the cognitive functions?

Worse still, a self-referential paradox.

  1. Your perception of MBTI is influenced by your own MBTI type.

  2. Your trust in the MBTI test may be influenced by your own MBTI type.

  3. You might question your MBTI result, and this skepticism may also be a characteristic of your MBTI type.

The solution? This blog.

In my future posts,

  1. I will clarify how MBTI should be approached.

  2. I will discuss the benefits of learning MBTI, not for reinforcing stereotypes, but for gaining better insight into yourself and others.

  3. I will show how to steer clear of cognitive errors, such as the Barnum effect, to prevent accepting incorrect notions.

Why am I starting this MBTI blog?

To me, the main reason to start this MBTI blog is to help people understand why they and others act the way they do. This helps us get along better, stop misunderstandings, and be kinder to each other.

A group of people smiling. Everyone is joyful and get along happily.
